Certificate of Registration, Parts I and II – Notifying a change of name
You must have any changes to your name or company name recorded in your vehicle documents.
Responsible authority
The licensing authority in whose district you have your main residence, business premises or branch.
The registration authority is
- for a city district: the city council
- for a rural district: the district administration
Details
Prerequisite
You have changed your personal name or your company name.
Procedure
You or your representative must apply to the relevant registration authority for the change without delay.
Depending on the options offered by your licensing authority, you can either download a form or use an online service via the internet.
Deadlines
If there are any changes to the vehicle details or the owner’s details, you must notify the relevant registration authority immediately.
Required documents
- Registration Certificate Part I or old vehicle registration document
- Vehicle Registration Certificate Part II or old vehicle registration document
- Valid identity card or passport; alternatively, civil registry documents (e.g. marriage or divorce certificate)
- If acting on behalf of another person: additionally
- written power of attorney
- Valid identity card or passport of the authorised representative
- in the case of minors: additionally, a declaration of consent and identity documents of the legal guardians
- For legal entities or companies:
- an extract from the commercial register or
- business registration certificate or
- an extract from the register of associations
Costs
The costs are charged on the basis of administrative expenditure in accordance with the Schedule of Fees for Road Traffic Measures (GebOSt).
Please note: The costs will still apply even if
- the old vehicle registration certificate has not yet been fully endorsed and
- as a result of the issue of a Part II registration certificate, the registration authority is also required to issue a Part I registration certificate.
Miscellaneous
The licensing authority automatically forwards the notification of change to the relevant main customs office.
